Van Gisbergen Dominates Chicago Weekend with Thrilling NASCAR Cup Victory

Three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen secured his third win in the NASCAR Cup Series, dominating from pole position in both the Xfinity and Cup races on Sunday. Despite chaos behind him, SVG maintained control in the final stages of the race. Ty Gibbs finished second, Tyler Reddick charged to third, and Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five.

AJ Allmendinger, Ryan Preece, Alex Bowman, Austin Hill, and Ross Chastain completed the top ten as SVG approached the white flag. Cody Ware’s crash prompted a race-ending caution after SVG had taken the final flag.

In Stage 3, SVG climbed from eighth to first to claim victory. Reddick pitted for fresh tires, causing chaos in the pack. Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman clashed in a heated battle, leading to Wallace’s spin. Despite late-race contact, SVG emerged triumphant while teammate Chastain faced confrontation with Logano.

Stage 1 saw Michael McDowell briefly leading, with van Gisbergen facing initial challenges. An early crash involving Hocevar triggered a pileup, including Keselowski and Dillon. Apart from a spin by Bowman, the remainder of the stage was relatively uneventful as drivers opted for strategic pit stops.
